The facelifted GWM Haval H6 is due in showrooms this month, and the mid-size SUV range has been expanded to include front- and all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants.

The related Haval H6 GT ‘coupe’ had already added a PHEV option earlier this year, but now its more traditional wagon sibling has finally gained a PHEV powertrain in Australia after having offered one in China since 2022.

Available only in top-shelf Ultra trim, the Haval H6 PHEV is priced at $47,990 drive-away in front-wheel drive guise and $50,990 drive-away with all-wheel drive.

That makes the front-wheel drive variant $4000 more expensive than the Ultra Hybrid (pictured here) and $9000 more than the petrol-powered Ultra.

Joining the existing turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol and hybrid 1.5-litre four-cylinder powertrains, the PHEV system combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors.

In front-wheel drive guise, it produces total system outputs of 240kW of power and 540Nm of torque, with claimed fuel consumption of 1.0L/100km and an electric-only driving range of 106km – both under the NEDC cycle.

The all-wheel drive PHEV, wearing Hi4 branding, offers total outputs of 268kW and 760Nm, with fuel consumption of 1.1L/100km and up to 100km of electric-only range.

GWM also claims combined range of over 1000km, as well as a 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 4.8 seconds.
