Ford has issued a recall for over 200,000 Mustang Mach-E SUVs, model years 2021 to 2025. This recall was presented so that an issue that could result in the rear passengers being locked in the vehicle could be fixed.
In a document filled with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it stated that 100 percent of the vehicles have been affected; this includes car models that entered production from 2020 to the current 2025 models.
A software glitch that occurs when the battery is low could cause the driver and passenger to be locked out just after leaving the vehicle, having no option to open the doors from outside. Also, the rear seat passengers, especially children, may have a problem opening the door from inside.
Indication: Warn owners when the key is off the sync infotainment screen may display a warning about the system saving power or a blank screen appearing. When exiting through the front door, owners could notice that the inside release handle may need to be pulled further.
There have been reports of accidents related to this issue, with a few passengers reporting being locked out of the vehicles. According to the NHTSA, Ford will be planning to reach out to the affected owners by mail starting June 23, and they are encouraged to reach out to a Ford or Lincoln dealership to get a software update for free. More information can be found at the NHTSA Recall website.
